About Embrace Orthodontics
An independent, specialist orthodontic practice in the heart of Halifax, founded and led by Dr. Catherine McLeod. Here for your whole family, at every age and stage.

Specialist orthodontic care, close to home
Embrace Orthodontics is an independent, privately owned practice on Spring Garden Road in Halifax, located above Park Lane Mall. Everything here is built around how orthodontic care should feel: unhurried appointments, clear answers, and a plan shaped around your life rather than a template.
Because we are locally owned and specialist led, the person who plans your treatment is the person who delivers it. Dr. Catherine McLeod treats children, teens and adults, from a first check around age seven to full treatment later in life, and she works to straighten your smile gently, without extractions or surgery wherever it is clinically possible.
A first visit here is deliberately low-key. There is no referral to chase and no waitlist to join, and most new patients are seen within a week or two. You will meet our all-female team, sit down with Dr. Catherine McLeod for a free consultation, and leave understanding your options and what they cost, whether you decide to start treatment or not.
How Embrace Orthodontics began
In 2013, fuelled by her desire to live closer to her large family, Dr. Catherine McLeod returned home to Nova Scotia to launch her practice, Embrace Orthodontics. She had trained and worked elsewhere, and coming home meant she could do the work she loves among the people and places she grew up with.
That personal beginning still shapes how the practice feels today. Embrace Orthodontics is not a chain or a franchise. It is one specialist and her team, caring for every patient the way they would want their own family cared for: unhurried, honest, and in no rush to reach for treatment that is not needed. Patients have voted the practice the city's Top Choice orthodontic clinic six years running, which means a great deal for something built from home.

What it means to see a specialist
Every orthodontist is a dentist, but not every dentist is an orthodontist. After dental school, Dr. Catherine McLeod completed years of further university training in orthodontics alone. She is a registered specialist orthodontist in Canada, with multi-national specialist experience gained across Australia and Canada, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and she has spent 16+ years and 4,000+ happy patients putting that training to work.
In day-to-day terms, that focus means she plans conservatively, avoids extractions and jaw surgery wherever it is clinically possible, and can offer options a general practice may not, from LightForce custom braces to two different clear-aligner systems and iTero digital scanning with no goopy impressions. If you are weighing up where to have your treatment, our page on why choose us lays out what sets a specialist, locally owned practice apart.
It also means continuity. The person who plans your treatment is the person who carries it out and sees it through to the retainer at the end, so nothing is handed off or lost along the way. For many families, that single point of care is the difference they notice most.

Embrace Orthodontics runs regular Smile Events in support of KidSport Nova Scotia, helping local kids get into organized sport. Our school Smile Events have partnered with families from schools right across the city, including Oxford School, Halifax Grammar, Armbrae Academy, Sacred Heart, Gorsebrook and Citadel High. From the South End out to Bedford and Dartmouth, we try to show up for the community we belong to, not just the patients in our chairs.
It is a simple idea: a locally owned practice, caring for the community it comes from.
