Learn moreChildren: the value of an early look
With children, timing is everything, and earlier is usually better for spotting problems even if treatment itself can wait. The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic visit no later than age seven, when a child has a mix of baby and adult teeth. At that age Dr. Catherine McLeod can see how the jaws are growing and how the adult teeth are arriving, and guide the small number of issues that are far easier to steer while a child is still developing. Most children who come in this early need no treatment at all; they simply join our free growth recalls so we can keep watch.
If you would like the full picture, our orthodontics for children page explains how gentle, growth-timed care works, and our children's growth assessment page covers exactly what a first check looks at. Both are free, and neither needs a referral. Early does not mean braces now; it means catching anything worth catching at the easiest possible moment, and reassuring the many families whose children are developing perfectly well.
Teens: the classic age for braces and aligners
The teenage years are when most orthodontic treatment happens, and for good reason. By the early teens the adult teeth are usually all through, growth is still on our side, and a little self-consciousness about a smile is often at its peak. It is the sweet spot for a lasting result. At Embrace Orthodontics, teens choose between modern metal or clear braces and Invisalign Teen, and Dr. Catherine McLeod helps you and your teen pick the option that fits their bite, their sport and their daily routine.
We work hard to make treatment fit a teenager's life rather than interrupt it, with appointments that respect school hours and clear guidance on looking after braces or aligners between visits. You can read more about the options, and what to expect, on our orthodontics for teens page. As with every age, the first consultation is free and there is no referral needed.
Adults: it is genuinely never too late
More adults are straightening their teeth than ever, and healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age. Some adults are finally doing something they wanted as a teenager; others are dealing with teeth that have shifted over the years, or getting their bite ready before crowns, bridges or implants. Whatever the reason, the options today are discreet and comfortable, from nearly invisible Invisalign clear aligners to tooth-coloured and custom 3D-printed braces that few people notice.
Being a specialist practice matters most here, because adult treatment often has to work around existing dental work and years of wear. Dr. Catherine McLeod plans each case conservatively and honestly, and where it is clinically possible she works to avoid removing teeth. Our orthodontics for adults page goes into the choices in more detail. If you are not sure where you fit, a free consultation is the simplest way to find out.
The same careful process, whatever your stage
However old you are, the path through Embrace Orthodontics looks the same. It starts with a free consultation, in person or over Zoom, where Dr. Catherine McLeod examines your teeth, bite and jaws and listens to what you would like to change. If it helps, we take a quick, comfortable iTero digital scan instead of goopy impressions, and you leave with a clear plan and an exact, written quote. There is no waitlist, so most new patients across Halifax are seen within a week, and no referral is needed at any age.
From there, treatment is planned and delivered by the specialist herself, with interest-free monthly plans from $149 and direct insurance billing where your plan allows. And because straight teeth need looking after, every plan ends with retainers to protect the result. If you would like to see the full range of options first, our treatments page lays them all out. When you are ready, a free consultation is the place to start.
