Giving back to the Halifax we come from
Embrace Orthodontics is a locally owned, locally grown practice, and we try to show up for the community we belong to, not just the patients in our chairs. From Smile Events for KidSport to Sharkie's visits to local schools, giving back is part of how we work.
A local practice, caring for its community
Embrace Orthodontics is privately owned and Nova Scotian, founded here in Halifax by Dr. Catherine McLeod. Being local is not just a line on a page for us. It means the families we treat are our neighbours, the schools our children attend, and the sports fields our patients play on. So we give back where we can, close to home.
It is a simple idea: a locally owned practice, caring for the community it comes from. Below are a few of the ways we try to do that.
Out in the community
Three of the ways Embrace Orthodontics shows up for Halifax kids and families.
Smile Events for KidSport
We run regular Smile Events in support of KidSport Nova Scotia, which helps remove the cost barrier so every child can play a season of organized sport.
Sharkie in local schools
Our friendly mascot Sharkie visits schools around Halifax to make orthodontics fun and a little less scary for younger kids.
Rooted in Halifax
From the South End out to Bedford and Dartmouth, we partner with families and schools right across the city we belong to.
Smile Events, in support of KidSport Nova Scotia
Every child deserves the chance to play. KidSport Nova Scotia helps local families cover the registration fees that can otherwise keep a child on the sidelines, so more kids get to be part of a team. Embrace Orthodontics runs regular Smile Events in support of that mission, because a healthy, confident smile and a fair shot at the game both matter to a growing kid.
Our school Smile Events have partnered with families from schools right across the city. It is our way of belonging to Halifax, not just working here.
Making orthodontics fun for kids
A first trip to the orthodontist can feel like a big deal when you are little. That is where Sharkie comes in. Our friendly shark mascot visits schools around Halifax to talk about healthy smiles in a way that makes kids smile back, so that by the time they visit us, an orthodontist feels like a friend rather than something to worry about.
Sharkie is also the face of our kids' club. You can read all about it, and how to join, on the Sharkie's Smile Club page.
Schools we have partnered with
Our Smile Events have reached families from schools right across Halifax, including:
If your school would like to be part of a future Smile Event, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch.
